HOT UNDERBOOB XXX HERE(no not really)

Apparently most people came here by searching things like boobs and cosplay. Although that I am honoured that people looking for such things would come to my blog I feel sad that they will be disappointed when they find out my blog is really full of words.

In any case I’ve already imported most of my anime stuff to Who the hell do you think I am.(Do visit it, sometimes I will have posts filled with pictures. LOL) So I think those searches should stop coming here.

Edit: I’ve decided not to post my essay for now because I think it’s a piece of shit. I will do so after it gets marked.

GP essay time

31/50, bitches. That means I can pon(skip) my GP lectures. Or at least, that’s what I say to myself. The following essay has been cleaned up for spelling and grammar but no sentences have been changed majorly.

To what extent are our perceptions manipulated by the media? This is a hard question to fully answer, requiring one to sieve the tangled and fine web of relationships between people and the media. However, it is in my viewpoint that our perceptions, by and large, are consciously and subconsciously influenced by the media.

Firstly, the word “manipulation” implies an active role played by the media in changing perceptions. However, sometimes the case is that a person can also be influenced by the hidden bias in the media. Therefore that will be included as well. The media refers to any medium where information and new knowledge can be spread to the masses, including new media like video sharing and podcasting in addition to more traditional media like television and newspapers.

How can the media manipulate our perceptions? It can do so by giving us information intended to change our opinions of events or objects. Branding is one such example. Babies of over a year old are able to recognize fast food chain logos even before they learn to speak. That means that even before a child learn to order a burger, he will associate Ronald Mcdonald with fast food.

Everywhere we go, we are inundated with ads that tell us, subtly or not, that “Brand XX” has certain desirable qualities that we should crave. Without the information given by the media, we would be quite clueless on which brand to choose. In an experiment done by a university, subjects were given unlabeled drink cans which contained Coca-cola and Pepsi, When asked which of the drinks they preferred, the results were largely neutral and arbitrary. However, once information was given on which drink was Coke and Pepsi, a majority chose Coke due to a positive perception of “flavour”. This tells us that the human brain can made to anticipate quality in well-known brands(though the quality may or may not exist). This also demonstrates quite clearly the powerful effect that the media can have on our perceptions.

Stole this from Yeeloo’s tumblr. I’m a great fan of tighhighs, unless you have fat legs. >:(Hit the jump to continue reading)

Chinese in my blog? Its more likely than you think

Price

A man goes up to a woman and strikes up a conversation with her.

Halfway through, he says, “If I give you a million dollars would you sleep with me for 1 night?”

“I think I would.”

“Would you sleep with me for 5 dollars?”

“Of course not. Who do you think I am?”

“We’ve already established who you are. Now we’re discussing your price.”

My life is no longer interesting enough to have anecdotes, so I’m sharing what I’ve read before to you.

To what extent are our views manipulated by the media?

Well, I finally did what I said I will do. So here’s a general outline of a GP essay I did today. Feel free to discuss.

My stand: Our views are indeed manipulated by the media.
Definitions: Media as any medium which transmit information and knowledge. Manipulation in both the active and passive act of influencing people’s minds.
Evidence for: Branding experiments, Religious and political messages on television.
Evidence against: Conscious choice of media. Raising awareness against false advertising or misleading messages.

I think I would probably try writing it in full once I get my essay back.

Altruism

If you don’t know what my title means, go look it up.

“To me, friendship is like the stock market. Volatile, incomphrehensible and you may wake up one day to see your company go bust. But one thing is certain, without investment you won’t get any returns.”-Jake Tan

Now, I’m reading about about psychology and market behavior which inspired me to make the above quote. I haven’t finished reading it yet, but what I’ve seen so far is that humans aren’t as logical as economics say they are and that from the selfish behavior rises altruism and charity.

My dream

Sorta inspired by Tsang Sheng I guess.

After another day of fun(work is such a boring word) I’m back to my apartment. My absolutely adorable cats greet me with a cute purr. I dump all my stuff and change into more comfortable clothing. Opening up a beer I turn on the lights to my rooms, illuminating my large figurine/toy collection.

Will I have a car? Maybe if I get married. If not, a motorcycle or public transport would be good. I would love a ride like a bike but I get distracted easily and hence that may be a bad idea.

One of the rooms in my apartment(probably a 4-roomer) will be a workshop where I can just tinker around with things. Maybe do some mini-science stuff if I’m not a scientist. I will play soccer weekly, participate in an amateur league if I have time.

Just thinking about it makes me smile.

A tale of two rice

I just had duck rice today. It’s like the anti-thesis of chicken rice. (I’m assuming braised duck and steamed chicken)

One is dark, one is white.

The chicken rice has a smooth feel and its sinfully good as each oily mouthful slides down your throat.

Duck rice, on the other hand has a rough texture. Each spoonful of dry, brown rice peppered with yam cubes punches you with its flavour.

Chicken meat is softer, easier to bite yet its flavour is too general. Duck is tougher and its skin refuses to be masticated, but the taste is strong, unmistakably duck-like.

The differences extend to the soup and chili. The soup for duck rice is as brown as the duck meat and its strong flavour tells you that it has gone through a lot to reach its present taste. Chicken rice soup is clear, understated, almost like spring water. The sweet yet fiery chili for chicken rice is in deep contrast to the salty, slightly bitter chili of duck rice. Like a sword versus a grenade, one stabs you with intense spiciness while the other explodes your mouth with different taste sensations.

Who would win? I’m not sure, I would probably order both.
