I think, teachers should have their salaries pegged to the ministers.
Think about it. They both must take care of a bunch of ungrateful people who expect the most out of them, while not doing anything themselves.
How they must do extra work at not extra cost. Held on a pedestal by society, yet if you ask anybody on the street, being a teacher or MP is at the same rank at being a hawker.
Education is held as the top priority in Singapore. Like Germany, we know the importance of a good education. Why then, are our teachers not equals with our MPs, arugably they are more noble as they mould our future leaders. They are the engineers of our souls!
Chant with me, $2 million a year for teachers! $2million a year for teachers! Or perhaps, it is the minister’s pay which need to be grounded in reality. If people are expected to be teachers not because of high pay but out of care for the Nation’s youth, I can’t see why ministers would need so much money just to sit their butts in parliment. =/
